Seminar: KOZONO -- Well-posedness of the Navier-Stokes equations

Speaker: Prof Hideo KOZONO, Mathematical Institute, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan

Date: December 3, 2-3pm, Carslaw 373

Title: Well-posedness of the Navier-Stokes equations

Abstract: The problem on well-posedness of the 3D Navier-Stokes equations is one of the
most important questions in mathematics such that it was selected as that of seven
millennium problems proposed by the Clay Mathematical Institute in 2000. Introducing a
pioneer work established by Leray more than seventy years ago, we will discuss recent
results on the Navier-Stokes equations. In particular, we will see that the technique
from the functional analysis and the harmonic analysis plays an important role in
investigations. We will also consider a direction of the research in the future.

We will take the speaker out to lunch. Please join us near the lifts on Level 5 at 12:30pm
to leave for lunch.
